Partnering with you

CPE is committed to working alongside pastors and church leaders, affirming and empowering their ministry to the local church and surrounding community. We are not pioneers into hearts and lives of those in your community — you are.

STEPS Training

CPE wants to equip and support you to equip and support others to make disciples of Jesus Christ. The central resource to CPE’s training and mentoring is the course “Steps Along the Pathway to the Soul,” or simply STEPS.

We have developed the STEPS course to embody a model of evangelism and discipleship that has been used successfully for nearly 30 years in different cultures all over the world. The introduction and outline below will give you a preview of the content and expectations of the course.

INTERCESSION

STEPS begins with a call for Christians to recognize their role as intercessors before they are ever evangelists. The Holy Spirit is convicting and pursuing the lost people in our lives and we can join this preparing work as we pray for them and love them. True intercession such as this will compel us to evangelism.

EVANGELISM

STEPS will equip you to share the gospel by engaging in dialogues that are shaped by the convicting work of the Holy Spirit. If the world is being convicted of sin, righteousness, and judgment, as Jesus says, then they will have much to say and we will thus have much to listen to. Then we can invite them to see Jesus as the only answer to their conviction.

DISCIPLESHIP

STEPS continues beyond a simple profession of faith. We are convinced that new believers, like newborn babies, require very intentional and basic nourishment. And so the job of an intercessor carries us into evangelism and results in lasting discipleship relationships. We are not simply called to bring people to Jesus, but to call others to follow Jesus with us.

MATERIAL + SUPPORT

We will provide you with the material (in PDF) along with instructions on how to structure your training. You have opportunities to report your progress along the way communicate with a mentor. While our vision is to see many equipped and empowered through you, the first “step” is for you to learn and adopt the lifestyle of intercession, evangelism, and discipleship that is taught in STEPS. Only after learning and doing so yourself will you be equipped to equip others.

STRUCTURE

The 9 lessons in STEPS are designed to be facilitated as a weekly practicum, encouraging interaction with the material, the trainer, and between participants. Imagine each lesson taking anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to complete. We want to help you facilitate this course with a small group of believers in your church on a weekly basis, culminating on the final week with you and your team stepping out to engage in personal, Spirit-led conversations with lost people about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
